We use a fair two-part system to calculate author royalties:
Time-Decay Share (40% of author pool)
This rewards the long-term value of your content:
- Current Month Views (VCM): Views from this month count as 1.0 point each
- Current Year Views (VCY): Views from the past 11 months count as 0.5 points each
- Previous Years Views (VPY): Older views count as 0.1 points each
Your Time-Decay Points = (VCM × 1.0) + (VCY × 0.5) + (VPY × 0.1)
Engagement Share (60% of author pool)
This rewards recent reader engagement:
- Monthly Views (M_V): Total views this month × 0.5 points
- Returning Viewers (RV): Readers who viewed multiple times × 2.0 points
- New Readers (NR): First-time readers of your content × 1.0 point
Your Engagement Points = (M_V × 0.5) + (RV × 2.0) + (NR × 1.0)
Final Calculation: Your Monthly Share = (Time-Decay Share × 40%) + (Engagement Share × 60%)
Example: If monthly revenue is $1,000, the author pool is $600. Your share is calculated based on your proportion of total points across both systems.
Royalty payments are processed monthly, typically within 30 days after the end of each calendar month. We have a minimum payout threshold of $50 (or equivalent in local currency).
Payments are made through mobile money or bank transfer, depending on your preference and location. You can set up your payment method in your author dashboard.
